Chanel style cardigan

Diamante accessories
Black, white, grey and a dash of coral blue.

Feeling emotionally stuck in the doldrums, I had to about drag myself out of bed today to get ready for work.  I believe the days that you feel the most challenged is when you put o  something that you love and that makes you feel confident.  So, I paired my favourite lace skirt with a coral cami and this Chanel style cardigan.  This is a potential interview outfit.  Not too stuffy, but with a little bit of pizzazz and edge.  I think I could get away with this look instead of a suit - what are your thoughts?

Nothing but neutrals

The Deets : Skirt, Tank and Shoes : Truworths | Cardigan : Legit | Necklace : Accessorize | Bracelets : Contempo
Todays look took shape at the last minute - I had not quite planned what to wear, but this outfit came together around the skirt, followed by the cardigan and then the tank was added.

In all honesty I almost felt as thought I were dressed my age and a little more professional and a little less trendy than usual.  Its a safe, practical outfit.

I bought this cardigan a few weeks back from Legit - I liked the 'chain' details on the trim and the faux pockets.
Yesterday I saw another women in my age group wearing the same cardigan and I was quite impressed by how great it looked on her.  This range of clothing by Toya Delazy is marketed at a younger age group, but there are a few items that I feel are totally appropriate for the more mature trendy ladies.
I would like to get a necklace and arm chains that are more like the trim, but with the little gold sequins in the cardigan, I think the pearl and gold accessories picked up nicely.

Black, pearls and denim on denim

A quick comfortable Sunday outfit to run to the stores.

One of the furry little criminals, namely Marshy ... with the look she gave me in the previous photo, I simply had to grab her up and take a picture with her.  She's a rather unaffectionate kitty, but we do love her all the same.

Schatz and I dropped the troupe off at their Gran for a visit and headed on out to buy new cat litter trays and a baby bath for baby Joshua.  We ended up getting him quite a bit more than a bath.  When we called Felicia, she said she was starving, so we headed to the hospital with food.  While Graeme was dropping off, they said she's be able to leave soon - it ended up being almost 4 hours later, but the little sweetie is snuggled up safe and sound in his home with his Gogo staying with for the night.

Hope your Sunday was great.

Houndstooth pencil skirt

Houndstooth pencil skirt
I did it again!  Rushing in the store and picking up hose and got caught with the shiny ones.  I so don't like them shiny, I like them matte :-(.

I really like this shirt, but the same complaint as the last time I wore it - its a little short ... or maybe I'm just getting chubbier.

I wore this skirt way back in March and decided to have it shortened.  I finally took it in last week and had a good 25cm taken off.  I think it looks so much better.  The shirt and shoes are both from last winter.

Hows your houndstooth collection?  Are you rocking houndstooth this winter?

Hope your day is happy.

Navy and white or should it be white and navy

I was attempting to get Tequila to sit and behave for the photo - it wasn't successful but Schatz got a fairly good picture of my arm candy.

I can't remember if I've ever photographer this cardigan for the blog.  I bought it at the end of the last winter season sales.  I have considered removing the bow and making it into a pin instead but have not gotten around to it.
The vest was given to me by Mom for my birthday at least two years ago.  I love the little frills sewn down the front.  My skirt I've worn multiple times through all seasons, so it's an old friend.

Today was an odd day with an underlying feeling of stress in the office.  It exhausted me.  After taking these pics I cuddled up on the couch and had a snooze.  When I woke up I headed to shower, ate dinner and have been vegging watching some tv and editing these photos - I think heading up to my bed right about now is the best idea I've had all day :-).

Hey hey ... here comes the weekend.  Have a fab Friday.

Inspired Monday

Yesterday I was surfing style blogs instead of doing other things I should have been doing and found this blog and found myself crushing over Laura's style.  Refined, elegant and feminine.

This gorgeous look ...

... inspired this look.
Preparation
I had originally thought of wearing my grey knit, which is identical, but then thought I'd go for the cream and keep the grey for another look of Laura's that inspired me.

When on earth is the posing every going to become natural?

Our nights are getting longer.  It was decidedly chilly when we out to take these pictures at around 6pm and when we walked back inside both Schatz and I dashed off to put on another layer.

I wore a black and white polka dot shirt from the mens dept. .. to work on Monday

I have been looking for a white and black polka dot cotton shirt for a few months now.  I saw sheer-ish nylon shirts, but with big polka dots and black shirts with white polka dots and was about giving up hope of finding what I was wanting when saw this in the mens dept. at Mr. Price three weeks back when I took Jarod shopping ... oh happiness!
White and black bag from Justine Cosmetics
The shirt is in need of a little tailoring and feminising which I'll get done soon.  I was going to war it with a white skirt, but then decided to wear a black skirt instead.  I thought I'd go with what is in fact my most favourite colour pairing even, black and white. There was a time in my life where 99% of my clothing was black and white with very little colour.  I just found it so easy to wear and still do, but do know that colour does amazing things for me.

Black and white is always nice
I could not decide what to wear on my arm but since I wore my triple string of pearls, I decided to go with the pearl and gold bracelet set to add a little something of a different 'colour'.

Coral trousers and lace printed t-shirt

Firstly – to all my American friends and ‘family’ my condolences on the horrific attack in Boston.
Praying that everyone finds comfort and that those you love and hold dear and close are safe.

It’s Terrific Tuesday – and I thought I best wear these coral trousers as I don’t know how many more wears I’ll get in before our cold weather arrives.  They’re just a little too thin to wear when the cold arrives.  I had seen this t-shirt on Jean of Extra Petite and immediately emailed Taryn and asked her to try and find it for me.  I was so thrilled when she let me know that she had found it and I have worn it many times.  I absolutely adore the lace detail imprinted in the shirt.

My outfit today is very similar to the one Jean is wearing above
I don’t wear a necklace when I wear this t-shirt as I think it would detract from the detail of the pattern.
I initially had only a blue belt with my blue and leopard print shoes – but really could not decide if I liked it or not.
So I choose to play it safe and swapped for the leopard print kitten heels and belt.

So I’m toying with a new blog name and wanted to ask what you think of the name ‘Closet Capers’?
Feedback and comments would be appreciated.

Have a stunning day now.

Teal shirt and the Monday manicure

I am a day behind and I did not even photographs of yesterday's look.   But on Sunday I did paint my nails and toenails ... and I have not even worn sandals yet.

(oops about the blurry photo but my Schatzie has bad morning shakes and with it being school holidays, my usual photographer was still snuggled under her blankies when these pics were being taken)
This shirt was a sale find at Legit some months back (this is the first time I've worn it) and with it being a little cooler today I thought it high time I showed it off.   I love the detail over the shoulders but I forgot to photograph it. However,  it is a little visible at the top.

Red peplum on Houndstooth

This is a versatile skirt for the African climate ... at least for the milder winter days too (it just has to be shortened a little as this is not my favourite length).

I am picturing this with a blazer and boots ... denim shirt ... cable knit jersey and so much more ... no colour is out of bounds with Houndstooth ... The material is a lovely stretch knit and sooooooo comfortable I think I could take an afternoon nap in it.    Have a stunning Tuesday.

Black skirt and grey

I've been absolutely itching to wear this skirt (remember my request for stylistas input back in December) and considering I got it in December, and its already March - it was high time I did.  It's helped that I've lost two kilos as it was just a little tight around the waist initially.

I've pondered and wondered and thought about what to wear with this skirt, then it dawned on me to keep it, as some suggested, "simple" so as not to distract from the skirt but to rather draw attention to it so I decided to keep it simple with a grey t-shirt and plain black court heels.  How do you think I did?

Sigh - we don't do daylight saving here in South Africa and the sun is waking up a little later each week and I'm finding myself lying in bed listening for the chatter of the birds, however, with the sun waking later, they too are waking later - so why do I have to wake at the same time still?!   :-)

Hope your day was fabulous ... hugs

FABruary Style Challenge : Day 21 : Something old and something new

Coral trousers and cream
Trousers : Legit | Top (two piece) : Truworths | Shoes : La Diva
Coral Ring
 Ring : Truworths | Watch : Lanco
Coral necklace
Todays challenge is 'something old and something new'.  The tank with the knit top over is a new to my closet item and the shoes must be the oldest item in this ensemble.

The top has a bit of gold in it, but its not being picked up in the photos.  The necklace was a gift from Taryn (can you tell that she spoils me ... mama feels loved) on her first visit home and she fixed it for me when she was home in December.

This is a rather different look for me and not something I'd wear every day but it sure was cool and comfortable.

This evening I got another gift from Taryn.  She sent me a beautiful blue and white diamond pendant which I'll definitely wear tomorrow and share with you.  She also send me a gorgeous Eiffel Tower keyring ... we're dreaming big as we plan our 2016 trip to Paris.

After picking up my amazing gift, Courteney and went to gym.  I have not been since about October or November, so it was really time.  Courteney asked if we could join boxing on Wednesdays - now that should be fun.

Hope your Thursday has been fantastic .... here's looking forward to the weekend.

FABruary Style Challenge : Day 1 : Arm Candy

Arm Candy
I decided to play along with Imogens Inside Out Style FABruary Style Challenge.  The first one is Arm Candy.  I've kept is fairly simple and minimal as the top has a lot going on with the ruffles and lace.

I'm happy this week is over but I have lots to achieve this weekend.  I need to finish sorting out the study area, move my chair (oh I must remember to do photos of the before and after as well as of our new 'headboard') and get ready for our houseguests who are arriving on the 6th.  Schatzies best friend who presently lives in China is coming to stay for a few days with his girlfriend.  Liam and Marshy will be thrilled as they simply adore Sharon.

We don't have much else planned, but if the weather stays dry, maybe we can get to do something on Sunday which does not involve trawling the Mall.

I took Liam for his eye test yesterday and his eyes have only deteriorated slightly.  Since he has an astigmatism, he'll be like his Mama and have to wear glasses/lenses for the rest of his life.  All my children wear glasses and seem to have made peace with it.  Little Liam however needs to put drops in his eyes daily as he has allergies and the Optometrist said his eyes are 'very' red, which reminds me that I need to go and get the rinse aid that I use when we do his linen wash that helps with this.

So here's to a FABulous FABruary.

Black and white on Monday

Do you remember where I previously mentioned that I found myself wearing a black skirt or pants almost every Monday?  Well, I make a concerted effort not to wear black on Mondays.  I know that the reason I reverted to it time and time again is that I didn't have to think too  much and was ready to roll quickly.

This morning I started with a much different outfit in mind and then decided that the pants were too tight so went with something else and this top was the first thing I saw.  I took it over to the wardrobe where my skirts are and then saw this skirt which I'm sad to admit I have not worn in months and was avoiding it as it is a little tight over the hips, but since I've lost a wee bit of weight, I decided to see if it fitted a little looser ... and it does, just slightly, but far more bearable when I tried to wear it last.

I don't think I've ever worn it with this top and I can't think why I wouldn't have as they're a match made in heaven with my black court shoes and the belt with the gold detailing, which I must add I also have not worn in ages.

I had to head back to the optometrist this afternoon for them to complete the quotes.  Boy, its an expensive business.  Co-payment on mine is a small fortune!  However, trying to get the payment to go through proved to be a mission.  We agreed that since I'm going back on Thursday to take Liam for his test that we'd process it then.

I'm looking forward to my new frames ... they're purple!  Would have loved it if they're had the same frame in black.

Well ... as they say at the movies ... That's all Folks!   Hope you've had a fabulous Monday and a great start to a wonderful week.
