Skinny jeans, nude wedges, lace and a statement necklace

Statement Necklace

Today I rushed off to drop off a dress that my kitty had ripped and my 'bandage' skirt that was coming apart at Mom for mending.  When I got home I showered, dressed and then had two phone calls.  The day just slipped by in a blur.

I had no intention of doing much else outside the house today so I kept it rather casual.

THE DEETS :
Necklace : Truworths
T-shirt : Edgars
Jeans : Identity
Wedges : Fashion Express
Handbag : Gift from my sister Norma for Christmas
Bracelets : Contempo
Ring : Bought in 2005 in Germany

A black dress and a tie front shirt

In my continuing attempts at getting more wear out of my wardrobe and trying new items together, this is what I put together today.

I love this dress, however, its so low cut in front and I've battled with that since I bought it.  I've tried wearing a cami underneath, I've tried closing it with a brooch and a safety pin, then I tried these little nylon goodies that clipped on your bra and cover up the gals -  however, I found that they would creep up, stick to my skin with static and simply was not working.  Sigh!

Today I tried it with a statement necklace first, then with a little lace bra but still too much of the gals was showing, so I then decided to try it with this shirt.  It worked the best so far.

THE DEETS :
Dress : Truworths
Shirt : Edgars
Necklace : The Silver Copany
Shoes : Shoecity
Handbag : Gift a few years back from my daughter Taryn

Hope your day was fabulous friends and I do hope you're finding more ways to what you already have.

A Million, Bazillion, Trillion Thanks

When last did someone do something for you that just made you stop dead in your tracks, jaw hitting the ground, your brain going round like crazy and tears just bursting from your eyes because it was more than you could you believe and whats more, from the last source expected?

Well today, totally out of the blue, the most unexpected call and a gift from the most unexpected person came to me.  As I was pulling into Liams' school to drop him off, my phone started ringing.  It was my ex husbands stepmother on the phone.  Well, how you doing she asked, and then proceeded to give me the most incredibly amazing gift.  She said that she told my father-in-law that she realling feels that its such an important day and she felt sure that I was devastated (put that in great big capital letters) that I could not afford to travel to the event, and she/they are paying for me to fly to Houston to be with my daughter on her wedding day.

I have cried on and off the entire day!  I am still so amazed that such a wonderfully unexpected gift has been given to me.  Its been a crazy day, filling in applications, getting photos done and rushing around like a headless woman.  I sent out an email request asking for prayers that an earlier date be arranged for my Visa Interview, which was rescheduled from the 12 to 4 November.   Less of a panic and more time to plan.  Please say a prayer that I get a 10 year Visa - that would be wonderful.

My daughter, after being told the news, has decided to postpone the date to early in January (she's money conscious - not Extreme Cheapskate Style - but she works hard for her money and plans well with it and thinks twice before spending it) because the flights are cheaper if I fly out on 28th December than now.  When I woke up this morning there was a Whatsapp post by her saying :

Taryn  - Sometimes people are really surprising!
       Me      - Who surprised you?
Taryn  - Just everyone.  Sorry I was thinking :) love you good Night :)

She'd been told by her Dad what his Stepmom and Dad were planning to do.  She's as surprised and thrilled as I am.

Other positives of her postponing the date are that she and TJ will be in their own apartment and I'll be able to stay with them as where I was going to stay now was up in the air.  I can help her sort out and arrange her place and ... I'll be there for her birthday.  We'll get to go shopping before the wedding for a dress and she can approve it (which I was quite stressed about) ... I can exercise some more and look fabulous for her big day ... lol.

So gals, since its Winter in the USA when the date is scheduled for and Miss Taryn won't go overboard, I'd like some ideas of what to wear and suggestions, as she said, it won't be a fancy pants do - but I do want something pretty and appropriate as the mother of the bride.

Happy happy day.

19 Practical Tips for Thriving During Mercury Retrograde

(With the greatest respect, for any of my Christian blogger friends, who don't believe that the world around us has an effect on us - please be so kind as to disregard this repost.)

It’s that time of year again! No, not quite the holidays (even though that’s getting closer now, too).

Starting on October 21, 2013, it’s Mercury Retrograde, an experience that happens three times each year that can affect our wellbeing in many ways.

Here are some practical tips to thrive during this universally confusing time when you may feel like everything feels a bit out of control.

What is Mercury Retrograde?

Mercury Retrograde is an astronomical phenomenon that happens three (sometimes four) times each year when the planet Mercury appears to be going backwards based on the speed at which Earth and other planets orbit the Sun. (If you want to learn more about how it actually works, just search “mercury retrograde” on Google and look for credible sources.)

This fall, Mercury Retrograde goes from October 21—November 10, 2013.

We can often start to feel the effects of Mercury Retrograde a few days before and after it’s official schedule, so give yourself some grace. While not everyone feels the effects of it, many people experience it to some degree, but without knowing why things feel a bit “off.”

The planet Mercury governs communication and travel, which means that during a retrograde period, communications, speech, information, travel and electronic devices and appliances sometimes don’t work as they should. Household appliances can behave weirdly. Computers and cell phones may experience disruptions. Delays, detours and cancellations are common. People might say things they don’t mean. Our speech may come across less clearly, so miscommunications and misunderstandings may happen more with your loved ones and friends. If you feel irritable, just breathe through it and let it be. It will pass.

How to thrive and make the most of this time

  1. Keep your cell phone charged at all times. (Don’t be surprised if messages don’t go through or calls drop.)
  2. Allow extra travel time on the roads and in airports—and double-check your itinerary!
  3. Read and review details more closely. Since communication and information can be fuzzy, ask questions and double check details and instructions.
  4. Back up your data on your computer and mobile devices.
  5. Refrain from launching something new right now. This is a time for reflection, ideas and thinking—not new action. (Side note: This is also why we launched our new Dressing Your Truth for Men online course well BEFORE Mercury Retrograde.)
  6. Be gentle with yourself and others—extend extra love and grace to yourself and loved ones during these times.
  7. Take time to laugh and spend time with friends.
  8. Play with your kids or any children in your life.
  9. Nurture your emotional and spiritual life. Pray, meditate, spend time in nature.
  10. Practice loving self-care. Get a massage, do tapping, watch a movie, take a nap, go for a walk, buy yourself flowers.
  11. Go with the flow—don’t try to fight it.
  12. Allow yourself time to take stock of what’s going on in your inner world. Retrograde is a great time to go within, to reflect and renew.
  13. Release anything that’s not supporting you. Let go of the past, limiting beliefs, old patterns, etc.
  14. Finish projects you’ve left undone.
  15. If an old friend comes to mind, reach out to reconnect.
  16. Forgive yourself and others for past wounds.
  17. Re-examine your priorities. Allow new ideas, dreams and visions to come to the surface.
  18. Journal.
  19. Let yourself “be” with whatever comes up. Resist the urge to “do” something new right now—it may be better to wait until after Mercury goes direct to take action, once things are moving in correct alignment again.

Mark your calendar for Mercury Retrograde 2014

If you’re planning a vacation, events or travel for next year, it might be good to take note of Mercury Retrograde times in 2014:
  • February 6–28, 2014
  • June 7–July 1, 2014
  • October 4–25, 2014

One shirt dress three ways : Statement necklace and snakeskin shoes

Casual shopper                                            Night out                                               Mom Photographer on the run

Casual Shopper or Lunch with the girls

THE DEETS :
Dress : Fashion Express (they also have a gorgeous green at a mere R160.00)
Belt : Fashion World
Sandals : Unknown
Bag : CCI
Necklace : Truworths

With this styling, you could also go for a little kitten heel pump or strappy sandals with a wedge to give it a little lift.  I'm not wild about wearing completely flat shoes and I'm not fond of how my legs look when I have an ankle strap on my shoes. But this outfit I could really see myself wearing out for lunch with friends or shopping.

Dinner/Date night or spunky office gal

 THE DEETS :

Dress : Fashion Express
Belt : Edgars
Shoes : Woolworths
Necklace :
Bracelets : Contempo
Handbag : Woolworths

This outfit made me feel rather fierce!

If wearing this to dinner, it would definitely need to be a little more upmarket than say McDonalds or even Ocean Basket.  I'm saddened by the reality that people just don't bother about going the extra mile when going out, or even when going to work, very often.  You could even swap out the bag for a smaller evening bag/clutch which would really take it over the edge for evening wear.

I'd wear this to the office but keep an eye on the length and not lean back too far and would then swap out the belt for a thinner patent leather one and maybe just a simple string of pearls to bring it down a notch, but if you're a confident lady, you'd easily carry this look off.

Note to self - a fitted belt hikes this up quite a bit - bear that in mind ;-)

 Mom/Photographer on the move

THE DEETS :
Dress : Fashion Express
Shoes : Truworths
Belt : Truworths
Handbag : Woolworths
Necklace : Made by my daughter Taryn in 2006

Off to get printing done and need to be able to carry an A4 plastic envelope and this bag totally fits the fill.  I've even considered having it lined/reinforced to be able to use it as a camera bag.  I bought it in the mens' department at the Woolworths Sale possibly last year.  I often scout around  the mens' department for satchel/messenger type bags as they tend to be roomier when made for men - which I just can't understand ... lol.
This look would be great for doing photographs in as the leggings keep you decent and able to move about quickly and bend and even lie on the ground if needed without worrying that you're showing off some private parts.
If you have young'uns, this would be a snap for getting out to the park or the garden and getting down 'n dirty with 'em.

So folks, this is my first how to style and would love your feedback.

Have a stylish day friends.

Boyfriend jeans and a statement necklace for Visible Monday

So folks, how do I look?
Denim with floral shirt and tan shoes
Woolworths Re Boyfriend Jeans - Handbag and Shoes (Kelso) from Edgars
Statement necklace from Legit (Same with different coloured hangers available at Sass Diva)

WHEN : Monday, October 21st

THE DAY PLAN : The rain that thankfully arrived yesterday is still with us today and is making it really chillo.  Since I have really straight hair, the damp just does not let it hold any styling I've done to it - so today is an iffy hair day and its on these days that I with my hair were long enough for a ponytail.  I need to run out to the bank, but mostly will be spending the day at the pc reading my module 4 and looking at marketing opportunities for Simply Sassy Photography and hashing out my thoughts on a competition I'd like to run.

I'm still very much in the 'comfy casual smart' look and with that in mind, decided that since  I haven't worn my boyfriend jeans in a while, I'd pair them with a thin cotton long sleeved shirt I bought at Mr. Price ages ago.  I choose it because its thin enough should the day warm up a little and if not, I can throw one of my pashminas over for warmth.  I must admit, I'm not sure I'll wear the shoes out when I head to the bank, but probably a pair of brown heels.

I'm not sure I've ever shown this bag off on the blog, mostly because I'm not sure I've ever actually used it.  I'm making a concerted effort to use what I have, all this crazy indulgence must end ;-).

A grey and wet day outside -  maybe I'll swap the shoes before I head out
THE DEETS :
Jeans : Woolworths
Shoes & Handbag : Edgars
Shirt : Mr. Price
Necklace : Legit
Bracelet : Kays Jewellers (gift from my daughter)

I'm linking up with the ever stylish and lovely Patti over at Not Dead Yet Style for her Visible Monday linkup.  Hop on over and see all the lovely stylish ladies.

Coral lace and mint stripes

WHEN : Thursday, October 17th

THE DEETS :
Tank - Pick 'n Pay
Shirt : Mr. Price
Jeans : Identity
Shoes : Meltz
Belt : Foschini

THE DAY PLAN: Today is Courteneys' 17th birthday.  We called this afternoon but had missed her as she's already left for schoool, so the boys and I send her a voicenote over Whatapps where we sang - we sounded horrid ... lol.

Yet again my day got sidetracked and I did not quite achieve what I had set out to achieve, so tomorrow I'm under some self imposed stress.  Its been a week of unexpected distractions and I'm just not getting to what I need to get to.  I don't know if anyone feels it, but the days sure slip by quickly.

I ended up going around trying to the find the items needed for a school project that Liam has to do which is to create an electric parallel circuit - from searching everywhere I thought it could be, to going to the stores and driving around trying find other options - I came back empty handed, but luckily Schatz found one.

This evening we had lovely chicken and avo wraps for dinner.  I bought the multigrain wraps from Woolworths and roasted a chicken.  Oh my, it was so good.  I think we'll have some for lunch tomorrow as well.

Well, my evening is now over and I must head to bed - hope your day was wonderful friends.

White denim, nude heels and a crochet bolero

WHEN : Tuesday 15th October

THE DEETS :
Capris: Woolworths
Cami: Contempo
Bolero : CCI (Cheap Chinese Import - Wording stolen from sisters friend)
Sandals : Fashion Express
Bracelet : Bought at a store in Graskop
Earrings : Truworths

THE DAY PLAN : Besides working on the final edits of the photos of little Lisa, I had planned to get some reading of my current module done.  I'm wanting to get both of these things finished by the end of the week.

I decided to put up the tripod and quickly take my pictures of the outfit as I find that by the afternoon its a bit mad in our house, so I decided to quickly do them.  Took all of about 5 minutes in total.

I love these capris, so much so that I also bought a red and mint pair when they were in store and which have all been featured many times on the blog.  They're comfy enough to sit in the entire day.  The sandals I bought about a week back.  I wanted wedge nude sandals as they're so versatile and you can really wear them with everything.  Since I'm a 'retrenched recession`ista reworking her wardrobe' now, I'm really not shopping much, but I can't resist a little purchase here and there.  I bought these after my sister had bought a face cream that I had in my stock basket, so I didn't feel too guilty.  I wanted a pair of nude sandals and when I saw these, except for the brushed suede finish, they were perfect - the height of the heel and the colour.

My cute crochet bolero has maybe made one appearance on the blog.  Schatz bought it for me and I can't remember the exact store, but I'm pretty sure it was at a Chinese store.  I really like it, but find I'm challenged on how to style it.  Today it seemed to fit well.

Well pretty ones - thats all for me for today.  I'm now headed off to collect my nephew, then my son and then to drop my nephew and mother at their home.

Have a magnificent day now.

Sunday outing

WHEN : Sunday 13th October

THE DEETS :
Jeans : Identity
Tank : Unknown
Shirt : Pick 'n Pay
Sandals : Fashion Express
Watch : Fossil
Pendants : (I've gone blank and need to go find the info ... lol)

THE DAY PLAN : Today Schatz went off for a ride and while he was gone I spent some time getting motivated for my week by looking at some Blogilates videos on YouTube and then did my weekend beauty routine.

I then got the boys up and made smoothies, checked out my emails and had just started the kitchen when Schatz got back.  He then suggested we head out to the Norwood Rooftop Market.

It was much the same as it was when at Rosebank but I did enjoy the outing.  Schatz bought me a cute bracelet at one of the stalls that I'm just itching to wear.  I'll be showing it off this week without a doubt.

Denim on denim

The coolest, hippest, sweetest, funkiest, most lovable 13 year old in the universe!!

Denim shirt on denim skirt
 WHEN:  October 3, 2013 : Wednesday

THE MAIN ATTRACTIONS:
Denim on Denim
Shirt : CCI
Skirt : Fashion Express
Necklace : Sass Diva

THE BASICS :
Wedges : Meltz

THE DAY PLAN : I started my day with the gym and then finally completed my Module 3 and submitted it
 - awaiting my result with bated breath.
When I got up yesterday morning, I was not sure I wanted to go to gym.  I kinda debated it with myself in my head and then decided to go because I knew I feel much better after I've been.  I then decided to tick off another item on my October Action List and try something new at gym.  My something new was a Rebounding class.  I saw it in action for a few minutes last week and thought it would be fun.  Well it was fun and I laughed a lot because I was simply unable to get the co ordination right to do some of the exercises, but I enjoyed it immensely and I if my schedule allows, I shall be doing it again next week.  I must say - 'my alles is seer' (my everything is sore).
 just do it
Some info about Rebounding in the link above :

NASA research found rebounding to be 68% more efficient than running on a treadmill!

Just 2 minutes of rebounding offers equivalent physiological benefits as: 6 minutes of running -  10 minutes of swimming and 22 minutes of walking!

In just 2 minutes of rebounding – the entire lymphatic system is flushed out and the white blood cell count nearly triples, providing a greater defence system to destroy cancer cells.

It was our monthly sistas dinner last night and yet again we went to Casa Rossi.  Norma was curious to see how it would be after the previous manager had left.

Sadly, except that the food was up to its usual standard, the rest of it was disappointing.  The restaurant was very empty and had no atmosphere.  The music was insipid.  The service was slow.

THE VERDICT : I don't believe I've ever worn denim on denim in my adult life, or at least, not that I can remember.    In my head I clearly see the pictures of Brittney and Justine in their matching denim on denim look and it kinda makes me cringe and hope I don't look as bad.  Will look back on this in a month or two and possibly shudder.  Not sure I'm wild about it, but today I thought I'd give it a try.

How to SUCCEED and SMASH through your goals by Simon Stanley

Simon here with some more awesome content for you, I really hope this helps you focus and smash through your goals and live an exciting, INCREDIBLE lifestyle!

How to Create Effective Goals

We all have things we want to accomplish in life and, for the most part, we do our best to achieve those goals. Sometimes, however, we manage to set goals that aren't effective or achievable and this can cause us a great deal of strife.

How do you know if your goals are effective and achievable?

The first thing to do is jot down the resources you'll need to attain your goal, both physical resources and mental ones. If there's something you need to complete before you can make your goal a reality, prioritize the steps you must take to complete that task first.

Once your resources are in place, you've opened up the highway for achievement. Let's see how to enter the on-ramp so you can be on your way!

Here are some strategies you can use to create effective goals you can achieve:

1. Make sure your goal is specific. Set a measurable goal so you can reach it and succeed.

Determine exact numbers and dates of whatever it is you want to accomplish.

* Saying your goal is to be a faster runner or a better cook doesn't work since there is no specific end target. You won't be able to judge if you've ever reached that goal because, no matter what, there's always room to be better at something.

* On the other hand, saying your goal is to "increase your running speed by shaving 10 seconds off the time it takes you to run your course" is specific and you can tell when you've reached it.

2. Your goal must also be attainable and realistic. You wouldn't set your goal to lose 30 pounds in the next 5 days, because it's just not realistic. Setting a goal to lose 30 pounds over the next 10-12 weeks is a real and attainable goal.

* Unattainable goals are counterproductive. Not only can you never complete an unattainable goal, but it can also prevent you from even trying. By setting a goal you cannot possibly meet, you're setting yourself up for failure.

3. Give yourself a time limit for your goal. Setting a deadline makes the goal a priority, keeps it in your mind, and makes it easier to achieve. If you know you only have a specific time in which to achieve something, you tend to focus more time and energy on that task.

* If you have a big goal, then divide it into smaller goals, or steps. Smaller goals keep you focused on attaining the bigger goal as long as they're related to each other.

* For example, if your goal is to be promoted in six months, then establishing six one-month goals designed to improve your work performance will contribute to the overall goal.

4. Write down your goals. Most people have more than one goal at a time. You can set goals in many different areas: family, work, health, education, hobbies, or any part of your life in which you'd like to make changes.

The question is how to handle all these goals at the same time. Writing down each goal can help you organize them and better motivate you to work toward achieving them.

* Once you have them written down, you may see ways they connect to each other and can devise ways to work on them at the same time.

* For example, let's say one goal you have is to get a job making more money and another is to continue your education. Once you complete your education you should be able to land a better job. See how one goal feeds another?

* Perhaps one goal is to spend more time with your family and another one is to workout.

Well, if you exercised as a family once or twice a week, you'd accomplish both goals at the same time.

Using these goal-setting tips will make your goals more effective and achievable. Once you've created your objectives, make a plan of action steps and stick with it. In time, you'll achieve these goals and you will have a system in place for any endeavor!

Until next time!

Blue peplum and a statement necklace

Oooh, looking serious while dodging the setting afternoon sun and keeping an eye on my lively photographer, Jarod.

Accessorize Necklace                                                                                                        Makro Shoes

WHEN:  October 3, 2013 : Thursday

THE MAIN ATTRACTIONS:
Peplum : Mr Price (Last season)
Skirt : Jet (Last season)
Necklace : Accessorize

THE BASICS :
Shoes : Makro

THE DAY PLAN : I had nothing beyond pc and studio work planned but really felt like dressing up a little more than usual.

THE VERDICT : Schatz liked this look a lot and said I looked classy ... I aim to please the man.  You may remember that I took his shock at the striped dress quite badly and was in fact surprised by his reaction ... today I got the total opposite, the only thing that may have surprised him more would have been a ball gown, or maybe a dominatrix outfit ;-).

Thankfully peplums are still on trend this season.  One of the things about living in the southern hemisphere and watching the styles in the North, is that you know if what's in your closet is still on trend by the time the season changes.

I only wore this peplum about two or three times last summer, but cannot seem to find a photo of myself in it, so I'm happy to get a bit more wear out of.  I decided to pair it with this black and white skirt of mine, which I also wore but a handful of times and that I love.

Here's to Happy Spring and Autumn days.

ITEMS SEEN PREVIOUSLY : Skirt worn previously here and here.

Things on a Thursday

So yesterday I went off to see Magnificent Health for a live blood analysis and did not get to the gym.  It was interesting and the diagnosis is that my system is under strain and weak which is one of the reasons why I often have flu type symptons.  I also have a lot of acid and some other nasties floating about which we need to take care of.

I did not get to have the acupuncture treatments done as will go back in two weeks for a check up and then have the treatment done.  However, the one product I was recommended to take as a meal and snack replacement is beyond yuck!  I don't know if I'll be able to swallow it again today.  I also got two sets of tables, AdvaClear and Oxy Release that I'm taking.  Those are fine - those I can do, but the drink.  No sireee.

blood samples compared
Healthy blood cells
It was interesting to see my blood under the microscope.  Where healthy blood cells are round in shape and bounce off of each other, mine were flattish and chugging along and looked like long worms mostly like the picture on the left.  In between them she pointed out the acidity and other nasties dashing around.  Since I'm wanting to feel better and get healthier, so I'll do my best to push on with it and the horrid drink.  I do hope that when I return she says I can omit the drink from my daily routine or at least replace it something a little more tolerable.

Yesterday I did not visit the gym due to the appointment, so this morning I headed on up and dropped my car off at the carwash.  Although my scale is barely moving at this point, I must admit that I'm feeling a little more toned.  My tummy is jiggling less each week which thrills me.

Today I hit the treadmill for 10 minutes, then hit up the machines and did shoulder presses, Abdominal crunches, Bicep curls, Chest press, Back extensions and then finishes off with 10 minutes on the bicycle.  My biceps and buttocks muscles are speaking to me and complaining a little.

Now I'm off to battle on with my module as I took the photos for my zone ruler, but the first set is not correct, so its back to the grey card and camera for me after I finally get showered.

Hope you have a wonderful day.

Octobers 10 Actions

Intentions...
Source
Welcome October - flowers in bloom, birds in the trees, warm African weather and all the divine fruits on the shelf - waiting in anticipation for mangoes and watermelons to arrives in store.

I've decided to make this more of a commitment and use the word Actions instead of intentions.
So here come my 10 Actions for October - want to join me in setting some Actions for yourself.
  1. Get two modules completed - NON NEGOTIABLE!
  2. Keep with the action of two visits weekly to the gym, but attempt to keep with the three times weekly visits achieved.
  3. Try something new at gym at least once this month just to jazz it up - maybe rebounding, ab attack or swimming. Go me - go me  - I did rebounding
  4. Get the guestroom painted and hang the pictures on the wall --- looking doubtful as at today
  5. Hang Jarods clock.
  6. Wish all the October babies, and boy, I have a few of them in my world.
    • Mike
    • Salma
    • Richard
    • Richard
    • Nicholas
    • Courteney
  7. Get the holiday card list together - I don't always get the 'paper' ones out, so I may just got for an ecard in total this year.
  8. Get the gifts for the America's sorted by the end of the month.
  9. Get to the bottom of the cause of the migraines and difficulty in shifting the weight - on that I have an appointment tomorrow morning and I'm so hoping that some light will be shed.
  10. Get onto the eating plan - I'm so battling with this one.
So, here we are at the start of October - hope its a good one for you.
