Alteration Anxiety

For the first time in my life, I took two items to the tailor to be altered.  I mentioned wanting to alter my black shift dress way back in October and then put it off.  Then when I bought the red skirt, I mentioned it again.  Sunday I took them out the wardrobe and brought them with to the office and left them on my desk so that I would not forget them in my cupboard, which I'm prone to doing.  I then hotfooted down to the tailor and he pinned the seams ... I'm now super nervous about this entire process.  However, should it turn out as I'm hoping, then the cost of R120.00 for the alterations is much cheaper than buying new/replacing and considering that it costs me R45.00 to replace the pockets in G-mans trousers, its really not badly priced.

I am quite smitten with the looks of these two items from Ackermans :

I don't wear flat-flat shoes very often, but these look really cute.  But what on earth would I wear them with.  On the other hand of this internal discussion, last weekend I tried on a pair of shoes similar to these and all I could see was my mother and my dd look at me rather horrified that I'd even dared to tried them on ... lol.

This jacket also looks interesting.  I need to go see it in person though.  Its still not the red blazer I'm lusting after, but a red coat could be fun.  I have a divine coral coloured one that G-man bought me for mothers day year before last, so red would be a nice addition and the style is generic enough to last for years.

The mornings are feeling decidedly cooler of late and my kitty is snuggling closer which is a sure indication of the temps dropping at night.  Soon, we'll be closing the windows at night.  With winter heading our way, it's time to get out the clothing that was packed away for summer.  I've washed and ironed most of my long sleeved shirts in anticipation but now I need to resort the wardrobe to make space for the coats, knitted items and boots.  Its time to complete these and do the necessary wardrobe audit so that I know what I need.

I've noticed that the looks this season are not that different ... with that being said, what will you be updating in your closet?   I've not quite made up my mind as yet.

  1. Tailoring, if done well, is worth the expense. It can make the uncomfortable fit and the shabby chic. Good for you to try it out.

I keep forgetting our seasons are reversed. We're heading into hot weather; you, cold.

  2. Winter is really creeping up on us. Love your finds. I hope your altered clothing is all you wish it would be.

  3. There is a nice red jacket at Edgars ~ Saw it at Clearwater and I should have taken a photo as I thought about you when I saw it.

I need a total overhaul of my closet for winter ~ but waiting to see if we are going to wear uniform at work first before I buy anything.
