From America with love
Two of the items I adorned my body with today came from the USA. First, the bracelet, which I've worn the entire week (I really love it Miz T) and my gorgeous jacket.
The skirt is one of the items I had altered (per this blog post) and its a much better fit now. Next week I'll wear the dress that I had altered. At least I did not spend half the day trying to keep it on me.
I was given this jacket in January when my children returned from visiting their dad in Houston, but waited to wear it when the weather cooled. Today, it was perfect. I was a wee bit nervous of the collar, but was reassured it looks fine.
At first I was going to wear an animal print top, but did not like how the collar looked under the jacket, so I opted for a plain and lower neckline. I think it worked fairly well.
T-shirt : Legit
Skirt : Miladys
Jacket : Loft
Bracelet : Charlotte Russe
Shoes : La Diva
Earrings : Truworths
It's T.G.I.F. tomorrow and I have lots of things waiting on my desk. Motivation levels in our office are at an all time low ... I think we're all suffering from S.A.D. and stress.
Hope your day was fabulous

Double dose
As promised yesterday, an outfit post. Actually, two outfit posts.
Courteney and I have a lot of laughs when she takes my pictures. She usually stands there pulling faces at me and sucking in her lil cheeks ... so silly.
T-shirt : Truworths
Pants : Edgars
Jacket :
Sandals : Makro
Brooch : From my Mom (ta Mom)
Shirt : Woolworths (circa 2007)
Skirt : Finnigans @ Truworths
Shoes : Ackermans
Bangles : Charlotte Russe
I've pictured these shoes with my skinny jeans and new top bought at Mr. Price yesterday ... and with my tan skirt that I have not worn in ages, and with my other brown pants, and with my denim skirt and ... oh heck, just about my entire wardrobe.
I bought a fairly cheap nail polish from Truworths by Kangol and am impressed by how well its lasted. No top coat and it handled 5 days, that's impressive to me.
I started the new thyroid medication last night. I am confident its going to help me feel fantastic and drop a little weight. I'm not greedy, just 5 or 7 kgs would be fabulous. That's a dress size and a little.

Retail therapy
What on earth happened to blogspot saving post as drafts? Suddenly, they're disappearing and I used that feature often. Oh darn, disappointing.
Today I woke up feeling a little at odds. Got to the office and felt like a bear with a sore thumb. Eventually I decided to quietly take myself and leave the office, although I did clear it with my boss first. A mental health day aided with some retail therapy sounded just like what my little soul needed. At 2pm, I was outta there. I headed off to a store that sells mannequins in the hope that I'd find a ring tray, but it was a dismal display and I think his entire stock is what was visible from the street, however, he was really sweet and tried his best to point me in the right direction. With that unsuccessful, I headed off to The Glen. My perfume is finished, so I needed to buy more and I just walked around the stores on the lower level.
then a pair of shoes at Ackermans (the cheapie stores were my friends today),
and a necklace, notebook and candle at Foschini (could not find any images on line to show you, so will need to take pictures) by Belle & Ivy which has the cutest items in store (it could become addictive). There were lots of pretty items about and I could have gone really crazy but behaved fairly well. I have not been into Foschini in a while and as usual am rather impressed with what they have on offer.
As I was finishing my retail therapy G-man sms'd and asked if I'd like to meet him for coffee. We have not done that in ages and it was nice to 'hang about' and then my sister joined us for a quick cuppa as she was in the shopping centre. The power at home had been on and off the entire day, so we debated what to get for dinner. Luckily, our stove is gas (except the oven which is electric) so we bought chicken, stirfry veg and fresh pasta for dinner which G-man fried up for us. Dinner was good.
sometime last week and as I passed by the Essence display (which is now added to at our local store with skin care products) I spotted their mascara and thought I'd give it a try, at R35.00 what the heck, if its horrid, I won't feel too bad tossing it. But surprisingly, I'm lovin it. I find most of the false lash mascara flake and cause irritation and just don't last. This lasts the entire day! I have very sparse eyelashes and they are really looking filled in with this mascara. I'll be buying it again.
Hopefully tomorrow I'll have an outfit pic for you for a change (its been a while), as a peace offering, a picture of Tequila.

Happy 51st Birthday Nols
My eldest sister Noleen turned 51 today and we went round to her home for tea and cake this afternoon. Just about the entire family except my niece and her son was there. We ate lots of cake and hung chatting around and of course, took some pictures. :-( I'm not thrilled with a lot of my shots, but such is life.

My nephews two little boys were there and they had so much fun playing with Jarod, who is just so good with small children. He's so very gentle and I think part of why they love being around him is that he tends to be very quiet when around small people. He was wrestled by them and they were loving it.
My nephews Dean and Wesley were there and being their crazy selves. Courteney giggles so much when they're around. They are both just crazee and naughty and gorgeous.
The weekend whizzed by in a hurry and here its almost 10pm on Sunday evening and time for good lil girls to head to bed.
Here's wishing you a stunning week ... Keep it Simply Sassy.

Alteration Anxiety
For the first time in my life, I took two items to the tailor to be altered. I mentioned wanting to alter my black shift dress way back in October and then put it off. Then when I bought the red skirt, I mentioned it again. Sunday I took them out the wardrobe and brought them with to the office and left them on my desk so that I would not forget them in my cupboard, which I'm prone to doing. I then hotfooted down to the tailor and he pinned the seams ... I'm now super nervous about this entire process. However, should it turn out as I'm hoping, then the cost of R120.00 for the alterations is much cheaper than buying new/replacing and considering that it costs me R45.00 to replace the pockets in G-mans trousers, its really not badly priced.
I am quite smitten with the looks of these two items from Ackermans :
I don't wear flat-flat shoes very often, but these look really cute. But what on earth would I wear them with. On the other hand of this internal discussion, last weekend I tried on a pair of shoes similar to these and all I could see was my mother and my dd look at me rather horrified that I'd even dared to tried them on ... lol.
This jacket also looks interesting. I need to go see it in person though. Its still not the red blazer I'm lusting after, but a red coat could be fun. I have a divine coral coloured one that G-man bought me for mothers day year before last, so red would be a nice addition and the style is generic enough to last for years.
The mornings are feeling decidedly cooler of late and my kitty is snuggling closer which is a sure indication of the temps dropping at night. Soon, we'll be closing the windows at night. With winter heading our way, it's time to get out the clothing that was packed away for summer. I've washed and ironed most of my long sleeved shirts in anticipation but now I need to resort the wardrobe to make space for the coats, knitted items and boots. Its time to complete these and do the necessary wardrobe audit so that I know what I need.
I've noticed that the looks this season are not that different ... with that being said, what will you be updating in your closet? I've not quite made up my mind as yet.

Positive Pledge
I pledge to be a positive person and positive influence on my family, friends, co-workers and community.
I promise to be positively contagious and share more smiles, laughter, encouragement and joy with those around me.
I vow to stay positive in the face of negativity.
When I am surrounded by pessimism I will choose optimism.
When I feel fear I will choose faith.
When I want to hate I will choose love.
When I want to be bitter I will choose to get better.
When I experience a challenge I will look for opportunity to learn and grow.
When faced with adversity I will find strength.
When I experience a set-back I will be resilient.
When I meet failure I will fail forward towards future success.
With vision, hope, and faith, I will never give up and will always move forward towards my destiny.
I believe my best days are ahead of me, not behind me.
I believe I'm here for a reason and my purpose is greater than my challenges.
I believe that being positive not only makes me better, it makes everyone around me better.
So today and every day I will be positive and strive to make a positive impact on the world.
Are you a positive person? When lemons come hurtling at you, how do you deal with it? It's guaranteed, no matter who you are, your race, your social standing, you're going to have bad days. But I do believe that it's how we deal with it. Sure, you're entitled to take a few days to mope about and bemoan your situation, but exactly how long are you going to spend feeling sorry for yourself.
I asked a collegue if they felt I was a positive person and the answer came back as yes ... and I believed it would be the answer because I truly try hard to keep 'the sunny side up' regardless. Its often not easy to be positive, but we keep on keeping on trying.
